On Saturday July 30th, Letterkenny Main Street will see the return of participants competing in the 7th annual Letterkenny Busking Festival competition!
Since the festival was first held in 2015, all types of buskers and performers have been taking part in this annual event and this year sees the return of many favourites but also some exciting new acts. We have reached our quota of participants for this year’s event as many performers have signed up for the festival.
A variety of trad musicians, singers, acoustic guitarists and many more performers will be battling it out to win the amazing cash prizes up for grabs. Participants and groups taking part in this year’s competition, will be in with a chance of winning prizes from the €1000 prize fund.
Buskers and groups will be performing all along the Main Street from 3pm to 6pm on the day.
“We’re delighted that this year’s festival will be bigger and better!”, explains Kristine Reynolds, President of Letterkenny Chamber, that is organising the Busking Festival through its ShopLK Brand. “The busking festival is a highlight of the Summer months as it brings lots of entertainment to the streets of Letterkenny.
The annual Letterkenny Busking Festival is funded through the Retail Promotion initiative from Donegal County Council and helps to showcase what Letterkenny and in particular the Main Street has to offer. We hope that July 30th will be a memorable and enjoyable day out for all!”
Letterkenny Chamber CEO Toni Forrester had this to say, “Last year’s event was fantastic with everything from trad bands, soloists to a full scale rock band. We got a great crowd out watching and we hope to have the same fun this year.
We are running it at a later time this year, so come out from 3pm to 5.30pm and enjoy the fun.
Buskers will be in different spots so we would love people to make it a day out and wander from one spot to another. The buskers really enjoy when they have an audience. This is an outdoors, family friendly event Why not come along, meet friends and family, and help bring the town to life.”
To add to the festival, there will be two special performances before and after. Joe Gibson perform a set at the Market Centre from 2pm to 3pm and Mark McLean and his band will perform from 5pm in time for the prizegiving.
This Letterkenny Busking Festival brings various acts together to celebrate local and national talent. Join us on the Main Street and support our buskers this Saturday, July 30th.
